 Experience. Expertise. Diligence.

Douglas S. Baxter Bio

Douglas Baxter has been a member of the American Society of Appraisers since 2001,  practicing appraisals and consulting for 18 years in the San Francisco Bay Area.  His senior accreditation with the ASA was earned in 2009 after thousands of hours of appraisal practice and valuation methodology in personal property with a specialization in antique furniture. The American Society of Appraisers is the oldest and most respected professional accrediting appraisal society in the United States. Baxter Appraisals is in compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. (USPAP)

Managing a Bay Area antiques gallery during the 1990s paved the way for an interest in the arts and antiques trade. After completing The Sotheby's Institute of Art's London Post Graduate Degree, Works of Art Course in 2000, Mr. Baxter began working with an independent appraisal and consulting firm in San Francisco specializing in high net worth art and antique collections. Over the past decade, professional coursework has included Appraisal Review, Matrimonial Law, Ethics, Estate and Tax Law, Conservation, and Art Crime. Doug's integrity, ethics, and experience have supported independent and complex appraisals in the legal, government, insurance, and private sectors.

Expertise in the fields of California painting, crafts, metalwares and 20th century design have expanded his practice over the past two decades. The San Francisco Bay Area is home to Doug and his family and he is grateful for all the beauty and creativity that surrounds this community.  He attended Saint Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco before earning a Bachelor's of Arts in History at UCLA.  In 2016, he began his own firm as an independent appraiser and consultant based in Sebastopol, CA.
